The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Presentation Evening

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Presentation Evening recently took place in the Gracie Fields Theatre, and was organised and presented by a group of Oulder Hill Students: Caitlin Rea, Tom Booth, Laraib Raja, Ikra Mahmood, Matthew Greenwood, Mia Butterworth-Brooks, Jack Turner, Holly Norbury, Emily Smith and Ben Hayes.

All Rochdale Schools and Youth Groups were represented and over 50 Oulder Hill Students were presented with their Bronze and Silver Awards.

The Awards were presented by the Mayor and Mayoress of Rochdale.

Special thanks go to Emily Cavanah, Holly Norbury, Megan Norton and Chloe Buckley who performed on the evening.

It was a very proud moment when Michael Moore (an ex-student) was awarded his Gold Award. Both Michael Moore and Louis Taylor have been selected to receive their Gold Awards, presented by HRH Duke of Edinburgh, in a special Diamond Jubilee Ceremony in Buckingham Palace in May.

Year 7 and 8 Swim Team

Congratulations to the Year 7 and 8 Swim Team who represented Rochdale at the Greater Manchester Swimming Gala.

After superb performances from the whole team, the Girls finished first overall and the Boys finished third, meaning a team finish of second place!

A huge well done to: Emma Hughes, Isobel Pauline, Hollie Griffin, Lucy Ratu, Sophie Mills, Ethan Steel, Maxx Wright (Number One Male over 50m Butterfly in Greater Manchester!), Josh Power, Bailey Boyd-Aust and Liam Fernandes. Thank you to Mrs Tosh for supporting and coaching the prize winning team.

Year 8 Boys’ Table Tennis team

Well done to the Year 8 Boys’ Table Tennis team who represented Rochdale at the Greater Manchester School Games.

The team was made up of Connor Marrow, Tommy Coleman, Dylan Stott and Bailey Mills. They were in a group which consisted of Cheadle Hulme (Champions of Stockport), Oasis Academy (Champions of Salford) and Manchester Grammar School.

In the first game they were unlucky to beaten by Cheadle Hulme 4-2 in games which consisted of singles and doubles matches. In the second match Oulder Hill thrashed Oasis Academy 6-0 and in the third match we played Manchester Grammar School where we were beaten 4-1.

All games were very closely contested against Manchester Grammar School and the score does not reflect the performance that the boys put in. The boys were unlucky not to qualify for the next phase of the competition but enjoyed the experience of representing Rochdale at the Greater Manchester School Games.

Congratulations to the players involved, they were a pleasure to take to the tournament and competed at an exceptionally high level. Thank you to Mr Pickles for coaching the team and accompanying them to the tournament.
