Filling a gap in the market

Date published: 19 December 2007

A Deeplish resident has opened a new dental practice in Littleborough. The NHS facility is expected to be a welcome addition to the town's health services amidst reports nationwide this year of people partaking in 'Do-It-Yourself dentistry' because of long waiting lists at NHS dentists.

Dr Khalid Mushtaq's Featherstall Road surgery was officially opened by Rochdale MP Paul Rowen this week. Mr Rowen said: "I have known Khalid for years and he and his family have put a considerable amount of time and money into this project. I have fought for more NHS Dentists since being elected and I pleased to have been able to officially open this excellent facility in Littleborough.  Khalid is committed to improving dentistry in our town and I believe he has been working flat out since opening."

Rochdale, Heywood and Middleton Primary Care Trust and Councillor Mohammad Sharif, Rochdale Council Cabinet Member for regeneration, have worked alongside Dr Mushtaq in setting up the new surgery.

Councillor Mohammad Sharif said: “This is just the type of project we need. I was very proud to attend the opening of a facility that will benefit so many. Already oversubscribed, I am hoping that funding will be made available for an extra surgery at the practice so that more people can benefit from this excellent project."
