Terry Keen: 69-year-old cycling 1,400 miles to raise money visits Heywood

Date published: 31 March 2016

Terry Keen is cycling across the country to mark the Queen’s 90th birthday and was met by the Mayor at a special welcome party on Tuesday (29 March).

Terry, 69, is on a 1,400 mile trip between Northumberland and Cornwall to raise money for Grandparents Plus, and made a special trip to Heywood en route.

The strong-willed cyclist met with the Mayor and Mayoress Surinder and Cecile Biant at Bridgewood Lodge Residential Home in Hyewood, where one resident even dressed up as the Queen to mark the occasion.

Location Manager Janet Murray said: “It was a really fun day.

"Bridgewood Lodge Social Club and the other residents here are a very sociable group and enjoy life to the full. We appreciated a good excuse for a party, have a lot of respect for the Queen and wanted to support Terry in his endeavour to raise money for Grandparents Plus.

“Terry is a remarkable and kind man. To be so fit at the age of 69 and be able to cycle 1,400 miles for a good cause and to celebrate the Queen’s birthday is truly inspiring.

“I am very grateful to the staff, volunteers and social club for making the event possible and such a good day and flattered that the Mayor and Mayor’s felt that they could spend time with us.

“The event raised £200 Grandparents Plus and I wish Terry all the best on his continued journey.”
