Simon Danczuk to host WASPI roundtable debate

Date published: 04 March 2016

Women whose retirement plans were ruined by a sudden increase in the state pension age have been invited to share their experiences with Rochdale MP Simon Danczuk as he campaigns have the changes scrapped.

Mr Danczuk will hold a roundtable discussion on Monday as part of the ongoing Women Against State Pension Inequality campaign.

Legislation pushed through under the Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition Government, will mean some women born in the 1950s will have to work up to 18 months longer before they qualify for a state pension.

Many women were given little or no notice of the change, resulting in widespread calls for the increase to be scrapped and introduced more gradually.

Mr Danczuk said: “This is a grossly unfair change which has come at a time when thousands of hardworking women were looking forward to a well earned retirement.

“I want to hear firsthand from women who have been hit by the increase. I will use the information we collect as I continue to pressure the Government to introduce the increase more gradually.

“If you or anyone you know has been affected by this change, please do come along.”

The meeting will take place in Mr Danczuk’s constituency office at 26 St Mary’s Gate from 10.30am to 11.30am on Monday 7 March.
