Liz Thirsk: “Our council needs strong opposition”

Date published: 17 March 2016

Liz Thirsk, who is standing as the Liberal Democrat candidate for Balderstone and Kirkholt in May’s local elections, says she is standing for election because the council is in need of “strong opposition”.

Liz, who was a councillor between 2007 and 2011, said: “This year is an important campaign because the existing council is in dire need of opposition.

"Residents are quite frustrated about the state of Kirkholt at the moment with the general decay and shocking number of potholes around.

“Also Rochdale as a whole has an issue with child sex exploitation. I want to see changes here too. Kids are not being properly protected.”

Liz has launched a new website to help her use the benefits of online campaigning. She said: “The difference these days is that we have the online options, and actually it can be better than having a leaflet. A leaflet goes through a door and has a physical aspect, but online the message is there permanently."
