Crea stands for Heywood and Middleton

Date published: 09 March 2005

The Liberal Democrats have recently appointed a Prospective Parliamentary candidate for Heywood and Middleton, to stand against Labour MP Jim Dobbin who stands for Castleton, Bamford and Norden. 31 year old Crea Lavin from Thornham was appointed on February 7, and is proud to be standing for the Lib Dem Party.

Crea said: “I have a lot of faith that Liberal Democrats stand by their principles, there has been a lot of time when I have questioned other parties and their actions. Some things are promised and they don’t always happen, and I have questioned their policies. However Liberal Democrats have always been different.”

Before being appointed, Crea was a student at a University in Newcastle where she gained a first class degree in chemical engineering. Her fervour for politics had arisen while she was a student: “I was fed up with present policies, and I spent a lot of time battling against student fees. It was at a time when the education act was undermining the independence of the NUS. I had become more interested in politics.”

Crea was president of the Student Union for her university, and worked closely with Newcastle City Council and Northumbria Police in various campaigns. Crea worked for Mars after University before travelling for 12 months. She is currently the Manufacturing Manager of Princes Soft Drinks.
