Kerri- Anne Payne talks to pupils about her Olympic success and to aim high for their dreams.
The future is bright for pupils at Bowlee Park Primary School said Headteacher Chris Windle on Thursday, as the doors to the new school building were officially opened by local Olympic hero Kerri Anne Payne.
All pupils and staff celebrated the opening of their building, in Langley, with special guests including the Mayor and Mayoress of Rochdale, local councillors and the British Silver Olympic Medallist Payne, who cut the ribbons to the doors of the school.
The event kicked off with an assembly where pupils welcomed guests to their new school and talked about their aspirations to keep healthy, stay safe, enjoy and achieve and make a positive contribution. The school’s choir performed several songs before speeches were made by the chair of the governors, the headteacher and Kerri Anne Payne. Guests were then shown around the state-of-the-art building.
Headteacher, Chris Windle said this was a very special day for all at the school and one that she will remember for a long time: “It is an honor to be Headteacher of this school and I’m very proud to be in this fantastic new building. It is important that everyone has hopes and dreams to strive for, and that pupils aim high. Our future is bright and with the commitment of staff and pupils, we at Bowlee Park will continue to grow and achieve.”
Ms Payne said it was good to see a new building and nice school for the community: “All the children seem really happy and positive at the school. We both have the same ethos, striving to achieve and never giving up.”
Councillor Davidson, Cabinet Member for Children, Schools and Families said it was wonderful to see the doors to this school officially opened: “Everyone involved with the development of this new building worked extremely hard and it’s good to see the end results. It is the start of positive changes for the community to regenerate the area and also reinforces the message the council are keen to promote - that every child matters.”
