Staff and pupils at Hollingworth Academy are celebrating their best ever GCSE results this year. 78.9% of Year 11 students achieved five GCSE passes at A*-C, with 73.1% doing so including a grade 4-9 in English and Maths; a slight increase from 2016.

This year saw the introduction of new English and Maths GCSE examinations with grades from 9 to 1.

Only a small percentage of students nationally will achieve the grade 9. Hollingworth students achieved 20 grade 9s in English Language, English Literature and Maths. English and Maths departments both achieved 81.1% at grade 4 and higher (the equivalent of C or above).

• Chloe Caton (9 in Maths, 8 in English Language and Literature, three A*s, two As and two Bs)

• Chloe Boardman (9 in Maths, two 6s, three A*s, three As and a B)
• Charles Mugan (three 8s, three A*s, two As, two Bs and a C)

Headteacher, Darren Randle, was keen to congratulate the pupils on their individual achievements, as well as the staff of the school for their overall success, he said: “These excellent results reflect the hard work of students and the professional commitment of all of our teaching and support staff at Hollingworth Academy.

“This year has been particularly challenging with the introduction of new examinations in English and Mathematics.

“As a school, we have met and exceeded some challenging targets for this cohort of students, and I am very pleased that so many of our Class of 2017 will now progress to further education with real confidence and a tremendous sense of achievement.

“I am sure that staff would want to thank our parents too – as they have been so supportive yet again throughout the long examination season.”
