Janet’s Cards in the Rochdale Online Department Store

Date published: 13 October 2014

Janet’s Cards is using the Rochdale Online Department Store to sell handmade and personalised greeting’s cards.

Janet Bower, who designs and makes the cards herself, was directed to the Rochdale Online Department Store by fellow seller Julie Harris from Vinca Jocale Jewellery.

She said: “Julie Harris recommended the store to me and it seemed like a good idea to get myself out there and to make myself a bit more known.”

Janet has previously sold online but found that her website would be used by people to generate ideas for cards, rather than a place for people to buy from.

“I think I only had two or three orders via my website because I was finding that people were using the site for ideas rather than buying so this side of things gets people buying,” added Janet.

Janet has been making cards for a number of years and only started selling them in January this year.

“People were telling me that I should be selling them so I decided to do it and so far it is going well. I have a number of dedicated customers now so that’s good,” said Janet.

The cards Janet is selling on the department store can be personalised and suit a number of occasions such as weddings and births.

Janet said: “I think people like having that personalised option nowadays because it adds something else to the card. You certainly won’t find cards like this in the shops and I think that is what people like.”

The cards are currently being added to the store in themes.

“I have added a number of baby shower cards because I recently did a lot of them and when I started with the store, it was the leaving school and back to school season so I added them because I thought people would be looking for thank you teacher gifts and cards so it just depends on what I think people want at the time,” said Janet.
