Young drivers gearing up for their futures in kart racing are taking part in extensive championships at Rochdale’s Team Karting this summer.
Children between eight and 15 are coming from across the region to Rochdale’s indoor karting hub to take part in the nine-week contest, which staff say will really put their driving skills to the test and can even pave the way for a driving career in later life.
The Queensway karting centre has exploded with popularity since it opened in January 2015 and has become the North West’s favourite spot for the growing sport.
The nine-championship round, which started on 6 July, is still open to new drivers who would like to take part in the challenge.
Manager Matty Street said: “People think it’s just a competition that we run for the kids, it’s actually a highly skilled championship race which can be the first step towards racing as a career or taking up competitive outdoor racing.
“The skills required for these championships are of quite a high level and some of the best drivers in the region come here to compete. It’s really exciting and it’s fantastic to watch the kids excel and develop as drivers.”
At the end of the challenge of the nine round championship, the finalists take part in a 'Champion of Champions' race to find out who are truly the most talented/skilled drivers.
Divided into two weight groups, each group will have a first, second and third trophy, along with the inevitable fame from being part of the Team Karting website and Facebook page.

Team Karting has attracted over 50,000 visitors in the past year and has become a huge local success story.
