Obituary: Tributes flood in for Norma Dickens
Date published: 04 August 2011
Tributes have been paid to Norma Dickens, the widow of former Saddleworth and Littleborough MP Geoffrey Dickens.
Described as a vibrant and lovely woman, she lost her battle with cancer on Monday, aged 76.
Norma married the Conservative politician in 1956 and lived in St Albans until he was elected to the Huddersfield West seat in 1979.
The pair made Greenfield their home after he was elected to serve the Saddleworth and Littleborough constituency in 1983. The couple raised sons Barry and Clive.
Close friend Elsie Dover said: “Anybody you speak to will tell you what a lovely person she was.”
Fellow Conservative member Pam Byrne said: “She was very vibrant and a great support, not only to Geoffrey but to the constituency. Even after Geoffrey’s death in 1995, she continued to help out, she was so well-liked.”
The funeral is at Kingsdown Crematorium in Swindon on Tuesday at noon.
