Obituary: Barbara Morrish

Date published: 23 August 2024

With deep sadness, this is to announce that Barbara Morrish (formerly Pilkington, nee Rudkin) peacefully passed away on 19 August 2024 at her home in Rochdale. Her husband Godfrey ‘Geoff’ Morrish was by her side.

Barbara devoted her professional and personal life to supporting others. Barbara worked in leadership roles in residential social care and later as a social worker supporting families in the local community. Several former clients maintained their connection with Barbara into adulthood, recognising the support and impact she had in their lives. Barbara was matron of Moorland Home for several years, supported closely by her husband Geoff. She improved the lives of many people and often prioritised their needs above her own.

In later years, Barbara was extremely active in charitable and voluntary work, supporting migrant communities and those seeking asylum in the Rochdale area. As a devout Christian, Barbara played a central role establishing Rochdale Evangelical Church and helped it gain charitable status.

After going to be with the Lord, Barbara leaves her husband, Geoff, sons Grant and Scott, granddaughter Darcey and grandsons Harry and Logan.

Barbara will be remembered as a loving wife and mother and a compassionate and committed Christian who channeled her energy and a strong sense of duty to help others.

Funeral service to take place at Rochdale Cemetery Chapel on Monday 2 September 2024 at 10.30am, followed by burial at 11am.
