Obituary: Julie Collins

Date published: 20 August 2024

Julie Collins, 74, of Littleborough, passed away peacefully on the afternoon of 10 August 2024 at Salford Royal Hospital after a short illness.

Julie was born on 20 June 1950, at Birch Hill Hospital to Thelma and Norman Angus. She attended Bury Grammar School followed by the London School of Economics, subsequently earning a teaching certificate and first-class honours degree. Julie taught at several local schools, including Littleborough County Primary and Moorhouse (Milnrow) before retiring.

Throughout her life, Julie was passionate about political and social causes. In her spare time, she enjoyed painting, singing in a Halifax choir, playing the accordion, and doting on her grandchildren. She will be remembered as a caring soul, full of energy and committed to helping friends in the community.

She leaves behind her partner, Guy, two sons (Mick and Chris), two sisters (Bev and Alison), and three grandchildren (Harry, Jack, and Kate).

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the caregivers at Salford Royal Hospital for their compassionate care over the last three months.

Julie’s funeral will be held at Rochdale Crematorium on Monday 2 September at 1.20pm. Family and close friends are invited to attend. Given Julie’s love of art, attendees are encouraged to wear colourful attire instead of black. Flowers will be provided by the family; donations are welcome to Save the Children (London) or any children’s charity.

A celebration of life will follow at Littleborough Cricket Club from 2.30pm; all of Julie’s friends are welcome to attend the event.
