Tribute to long-time supporter of Rochdale Hornets Ex-Players Association

Date published: 16 July 2024

Rochdale Hornets Ex-Players Association has announced with great sadness the passing of Maurice Scott on Monday, 8 July 2024, at the age of 84.

Although Maurice was not an ex-player, he was a dedicated supporter of the association for 30 years and extended his support to many other ex-players associations.

Maurice owned an engineering company in Littleborough for many years, known as a welcoming place for a cup of tea and a chat any afternoon.

In addition to his support for the associations, Maurice was active in charitable work. His quiz team, The Waggon Loonies from Milnrow, won the Manchester Evening News Quiz Competition in 1987.

Maurice was also a prolific indoor rower, setting numerous records for his age category.

He frequently travelled with the Hornets ex-players to various functions of other teams' ex-players, where he was known for his engaging conversations during the coach journeys.

  • Funeral arrangements for Maurice are confirmed as Tuesday  23  July at 12.40 at Rochdale Crematorium, with a request of no flowers but donations to Springhill Hospice if people so wish. Afterwards at Milnrow Cricket Club.
