E. R. Williams leading the way on fair working practices

Date published: 15 September 2014

Rochdale based contractor, E. R. Williams Ltd. has become the first painting contractor in the North West to sign up for the CITB Be Fair Framework.

The Be Fair Framework is a construction specific action-plan that recognises fair working conditions, employment practices and behaviours leading to national accreditation.

E. R. Williams is a family-run business, established 44 years ago, that employs 50 local people. They are an Investor in People, a Living Wage employer and a member of the Considerate Constructors Scheme. Their contracts include many social housing schemes, including for Rochdale Boroughwide Housing.

Liverpool based company, Constructing Equality (the UK’s leading experts on equality and diversity in the construction industry) will be working with E. R. Williams to provide assessment and support for the framework, under license from CITB.

A spokesperson for E. R Williams Ltd said: “We decided to sign up to the CITB Be Fair Framework to further demonstrate a commitment to treating everyone equally, without bias or injustice, whether they are our employees, our clients or members of the public.

“With support from Constructing Equality to become a Be Fair accredited employer, E. R. Williams will highlight to the community our fully inclusive workplace. We actively encourage people from all backgrounds to join us, especially those who are currently under represented in the construction industry.”
