This Boots is made for working

Sarah Cliffe, 17, from Rochdale, has spent six days work experience at Boots in Rochdale during whihc she learned how the store operates, displaying products and helping with customer enquiries and providing make-overs for customers.

For Sarah, who is studying hair and media make-up, the opportunity has been a great way to find out more about the industry.

She explains: “I’ve learnt a lot about beauty products and which ones suit different people but I also now feel more confident than I did about working with the public and I’ve had the chance to make new friends in the process.”

Jayne Hartley, Account Manager with Clinique at Boots, Rochdale, was very pleased with Sarah’s work, commenting on how keen and interested Sarah was in the role, and that she was a great ambassador for the College.

Jayne said: “We are pleased to be able to support work experience placements. The opportunity gives young people the chance to see what working on a beauty counter is like and gain an insight into the industry.

"Here at Boots, the placement will give students the chance to network with colleagues from different beauty houses and when applying for jobs in the future they will be able to draw on this experience.”

In total eight students will have the chance to carry out a work placement at Boots over the coming months.

Donna O’Hara, Assistant Manager at Boots added: “It’s great to build relationships with young people in Rochdale and build on skills for their future careers. All the students I’ve interviewed for this year’s placements have been enthusiastic about giving up their time to come in and work with a mentor in store and so far the scheme is proving a success so is something I’m sure we will continue.”
