Consultation on zero-hours contracts launched

Date published: 05 February 2014

The Government is currently consulting on zero-hours employment contracts and is “seeking ways to prevent any abuse and to maximise opportunities both for employers seeking to create jobs and for individuals to get work that suits them”.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce said: "During our Action For Business forums last year many members were extremely vocal about the need for zero-hours contracts and their importance to their own business, particularly within third sector organisations, health and social care, retail and security sectors.

"To ensure that our response to government comprehensively argues our members’ views we are arranging a round-table meeting with a representative from the department of Business, Innovation and Skills at the end of February or early in March.

"We are keen to have both members who use zero-hours contracts and some employment lawyers who have experience in the legal aspects (either setting up or defending at tribunal) of these contracts at this meeting to ensure that all possible issues can be covered."

If you’re interested in attending this roundtable, please contact the Chamber's Head of Business Intelligence, Christian Spence:
