Danczuk’s Deli officially opened

Danczuk’s Deli was officially opened this evening (Saturday 7 December) by Mayor Peter Rush and will be open to the general public from Monday 9 December.

Mayor Rush said: “It is great to see another business opening in Rochdale. There has always been a great atmosphere on The Walk and this place offers good drinks and snacks for the people of Rochdale. I wish them the best of luck with their new business and all the best for the future.”

Simon Danczuk said: “We have always had an interest in good quality food and have had an interest in business. We think this is something that the people of Rochdale will welcome.”

The Deli, which is located on The Walk, will offer traditional and continental food as well as a range of drinks.

Karen Danczuk will be heading up the business after giving up her job as secretary to her husband. Simon added: “Karen really is the driving force behind the deli.”

When asked if this opening will lead to a chain of delicatessens for the Danczuk family, Simon said: “Oh I don’t know about that just yet.”

Before deciding on their final location, the Danczuk’s looked at other possible locations, including Yorkshire Street, but Simon said that business rates, which are very expensive on Yorkshire Street, did play a part in the final decision.

“Business rates on Yorkshire Street are a killer and I know I have gone on about it a lot but it did play a part. We settled on this location because it was a place that we really liked. It is a double fronted shop and is connected with the street. It didn’t need a lot of work doing to it either, only decorative work really,” said Simon.

The Deli will be open from 8:30am on Monday to the public.

Work will continue on the Deli tomorrow to complete the final preparations. Simon added: “We’re just about ready for Monday.”
