Rochdale Business Curry Club raise money for co-founder

Date published: 30 September 2013

Brendan Burke, co-founder of the Rochdale Business Curry Club (RBCC), will be taking part in the Coniston 14 half marathon to raise money for RBCC co-founder Steve Dooley.

Steve suffered a brain haemorrhage in 2011 and has gone from being a thriving businessman to being trapped inside his own body. Brendan said: “Each year we do a fundraiser for Steve so we can highlight his cause and raise money for his care.”

Steve is currently cared for by Millfield Nursing & Residential Care Home and his mother and sister and any money raised will go to them to help with Steve’s care. Brendan added: “They are they best people to decide what the money is used for.”

Brendan hopes to raise £1,000 through his run and has currently raised close to £800. Brendan’s main goal was to help buy Steve an electric wheelchair but  the family found one without needing to raise money.

“I always get great support from the Curry Clubbers,” said Brendan.

The Coniston 14 is a run which takes place around Coniston water allowing runners to take in stunning views and mountain scenery.

“I think this will be the ideal event for fundraising and should be a generally good event to take part in,” said Brendan.

The  half marathon will take place on Saturday 12 October.
