Kingsway Business Park in UK’s top ten

Date published: 11 April 2013

Kingsway Business Park has been named as one of the UK’s most active projects.

The development of the Wincanton/Asda chilled distribution warehouse and recycling centre last year on a 43.5 acre site as well as the sale of houses, with 24 of the first phase of 25 already sold, are both given as reasons why Kingsway has been highlighted in the top ten list.

Project Manager at Rochdale Development Agency, Damian Evans, said: “Kingsway deserves to be recognised in this way. The list focuses on major schemes that have continued to make progress over the last three years despite the unfavourable economic climate, and Kingsway definitely has.”

Kingsway, the only project in the North West highlighted, was given eighth position with just four of the ten projects being outside London.

A diverse mix of businesses is on Kingsway including Vindon Scientific, E.ON, Takeuchi and JD Sports. There are now 1,500 people working there, superfast broadband is available on the entire site and the Metrolink tram stop opened in February.

Over the next few months work on the access road to Plot U will start, opening up the site to a pub/restaurant, a crèche, local shop and the first office plot, and the last vacant unit is likely to be sold.

The list has been compiled by the Royal Town Planning Institute’s journal, Planning.
