Local company sign contract with cruise ship builder

Date published: 06 April 2013

Salt Separation Services signed a contract with German cruise ship builder, Meyer Werft,  for the design, manufacture and commissioning of Reverse Osmosis (RO) desalination plants for fresh water production on two new cruise ships.

Production is ongoing in the Salt Separation Services workshops on the first of class RO plant, capable of producing 800 m3/d of desalinated fresh water from seawater.

The RO plants will supply fresh water to the 4,200 passengers on board.

The innovative solution includes two pass RO technology to produce RO permeate to a very high specification as well as isobaric energy recovery technology, dramatically reducing the power requirements of the RO plants.

The contract is their largest single export order to date and follows on from export success in the offshore oil and gas market.
