Chamber Chosen for National Launch

The Chamber has been chosen by the Department for Education and UKCES to host the launch event for a national programme of traineeships. Matthew Hancock, Minister for Skills, will outline the aims of the programme and the latest government policies around young people. The event will also look at some good examples of employer and college collaboration, and how employers can get the support they need to help young people into work. The launch will be held between 9.30am and 11.45am on April 24th at Manchester Central. Email events@gmchamber.co.uk to book a place.

Real Time Information - Be Prepared

The 6 April sees a huge change to how businesses process their payroll when Real Time Information (RTI) reporting goes live. This means that employers must send details to HMRC every time they pay an employee, at the time they pay them and use payroll software to send this information electronically as part of their routine payroll process. To find out more about this change follow this link to the HMRC website. In addition there has been a lot in the press recently about the introduction of Universal Credit for benefit payments. Even though Universal Credit is at pathfinder stage in parts of Greater Manchester, the full roll out is dependent on the success of RTI. Click here for more details on Universal Credit.

Businesses Wanted by BBC

The BBC is in the process of putting together a series for BBC 2 looking at the British manufacturing industry. The series focuses on a Captain of Industry giving a helping hand to small businesses. At this stage, the BBC is interested in small businesses who might be prepared to speak about their business and the issues they face.
