Rochdale based Wireless CCTV had a visit from Her Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant for Greater Manchester today (Friday 18 December).

Lord Lieutenant, Warren Smith, visited the company to officially hand over the Queen's Award for Innovation 2009.

The Queen’s award is one of the most prestigious corporate awards in the UK and is conferred on organisations that demonstrate both exceptional performance in their field and a positive impact on society at large.

Wireless CCTV specialises in mobile surveillance solutions and was commended for the continuous development of its wireless, closed circuit television Dome systems.

The official ceremony was held in front of all the staff from the firm, alongside the Mayor and Mayoress of Rochdale and the Chief Inspector of Rochdale Police George Fawcett.

The Lord Lieutenant told the staff that the award isn’t an easy one to win. He said: “49 awards have been given this year and only four of them are in the North West. This is a major achievement for you all, it is a high standard to set and now you have to keep it up.”

The Lord Lieutenant then presented the Crystal Emblem and a certificate signed by the Queen to Managing Director David Gilberston.

Mr Gilbertson was thrilled. He said: “This is a very proud day for us. We have worked so hard; it has been an ongoing battle and a challenge.

“I would like to thank all the employees for their commitment, determination and willingness to go the extra mile. I am so glad we have been awarded this huge accolade from Her Majesty.

“We are now looking forward to moving forward and supporting communities everywhere, especially the local authorities in Rochdale and elsewhere."

The Mayor of Rochdale, Councillor Keith Swift, said: “My congratulations go to everybody here, this is a tremendous team effort and the people of the borough will be very proud.

“To bring such a prestigious award to the borough is big boost and will help to build the borough back up.”
