Getting muddy for charity

Twelve Rochdale businesses have taken part in this year’s Mud Machines interclub challenge in aid of Springhill Hospice.

Teams made up of local businesses and their staff got muddy for charity as they took part in the assault course in a 4x4 vehicle. The aim was to complete the course in the quickest time at Top o’th Croft Farm, Woodhouse Lane, Rochdale.

Each team was made up of five members, who all donated £100 towards the fundraising for the hospice, and to add to that HSBC Rochdale has also promised to match the final amount pound for pound.

The competing teams were:

  • Joe Sharp Int Spedition 
  • Wildbloods of Norden 
  • HSBC Rochdale 
  • Norden Motor Company 
  • H.Bell & Son Rochdale 
  • Crystal Clear Valeting 
  • ACC Security Solutions 
  • Hopwood Hall College 
  • Mud Machines

The challenge began at 10.00am and the event will run through the night, finishing with a firework display and music from two live bands.

Chairman of Mud Machines, John Lawn, said: “It has been a fantastic day so far, we haven’t been put off by the weather and the team spirit out here is overwhelming.”

This is the first time the Mud Machines have held an event of this kind and they are already hoping to do it again.

Spectator Tammy Marsh said: “It is brilliant fun; there has been something for everybody.”

Carol Kenyon, from the HSBC was on the ‘Bank on us’ team, she said: “I can’t believe it is almost my turn it has been a great day and there is such a good atmosphere.”

Alan Moore, from Spring Court Auto Centre, said: “It is all good fun and of course all for charity. It is great to get everybody together and everyone is doing really well. I would certainly do it again.”

Mud Machines are a group of experienced, off-road 4x4 enthusiasts who engage in a variety of activities, including off-road driving, camping weekends and green lane runs.
