Chamber Welcomes New President

Date published: 01 April 2009

Middleton solicitor Peter Carey has taken over as President of Rochdale Local Chamber Council.

Mr Carey has been a resident of Rochdale for the last 15 years, but is Middleton born and bred. He retains strong local contacts and connections, and is a firm believer in keeping things local.

He is a partner with Middleton solicitors, Sedgwick Phelan and Partners, having joined the firm in 1983 as a trainee. He qualified as a solicitor in 1986. Besides having a wide involvement in commercial matters he is also an experienced property litigation solicitor.

Mr Carey hopes that his personal background and legal expertise will provide a broad range of experience that will help Chamber members deal with the sorts of problems that their businesses and families face during the current economic downturn.

He said: “I would like to thank outgoing President Tony Nugent for his devotion to Chamber life over the last couple of years and for his considerable efforts in re-focusing local business membership within the Chamber.

“I am a great believer in keeping things simple and local. My primary objective in the coming year will be to promote the idea of local businesses doing business locally. Together, Rochdale Chamber members can weather the present economic storm and steer their businesses on to happier times.”

He added: “I sincerely hope that more local businesses can also be attracted and see the wider benefits of the services and support that the Chamber can supply to its members - that can only be good for the wider membership too. I very much look forward to working with all of our members and also the professional team at the Chamber over the next few months.”
