RAP Renewables wins solar deal for Cleland McIver’s Rochdale facility

Date published: 14 December 2024

Local firm RAP Renewables has been awarded the contract to deliver a major solar installation for Cleland McIver at its cutting-edge new sustainable facility in Rochdale.

The significant project will see RAP install an advanced 800kW string array solar solution, which will cover 14,450 square metres using 1,455 high-efficiency solar panels.

Designed to offset the company’s carbon footprint and reduce reliance on traditional power sources, the system is expected to supply up to 30% of the facility’s annual electricity demand.

Following a competitive pitch, RAP Renewables was selected for its expertise and comprehensive project approach, including a full suite of services from an initial electrical and structural survey through to final certification and ongoing maintenance.

The five week installation will be managed entirely by RAP Renewables, who will oversee electrical procurement, material supply, technology specification, scaffold setup, and stringent testing to ensure optimal performance.

Cleland McIver, known for its commitment to sustainability, will benefit from RAP Renewables' live monitoring platform, enabling real-time oversight of the system’s output and efficiency.

The system’s capacity will significantly cut the facility's energy costs, supporting Cleland McIver’s investment in sustainable operations.

Paul Adams, operations and logistics director at Cleland McIver, said: “We’re thrilled to partner with RAP on this important project, which will help future-proof our operations with clean, renewable energy.

“RAP’s tailored approach and commitment to long-term value made them the right choice for this installation after a competitive selection process – and I very much look forward to partnering with the RAP team.”

RAP Renewables will also provide ongoing maintenance to ensure the system’s reliability and performance. This partnership marks another milestone in RAP’s expansion into industrial renewable energy solutions, offering businesses tangible, sustainable solutions that reduce carbon emissions while delivering economic benefits.

“This 800kW project represents a major milestone for RAP Renewables, showcasing our capability to deliver substantial renewable solutions for large industrial clients,” said Lee Storey, head of renewables at RAP.

“Working with Cleland McIver underscores our expertise in handling complex, high-capacity installations across significant square footage, and is testament to RAP’s comprehensive approach and commitment to driving sustainable transformations within the industry.

“We look forward to delivering a system that not only meets Cleland McIver’s energy goals but also sets a new benchmark for solar projects in the industrial sector, whilst in partnership, supporting Rochdale’s green economy.”
