Wendy Lane Vets opens new practice in Heywood

Date published: 08 November 2024

A new branch of Wendy Lane Vets has opened its doors in Heywood to cater to the increasing needs of local pet owners. The practice, located on Mason Street, officially launched on 30 September and is positioned to serve residents from Heywood, Middleton, and surrounding areas.

Originally founded in 1978, Wendy Lane Vets has been a staple in the Rochdale community, caring for pets and expanding over the years to include branches in both Rochdale and Littleborough.

Recent growth at its Rochdale site has seen the addition of four consultation rooms, three operating theatres, and separate wards for cats and dogs, leading the team to recognise the need for further facilities to meet demand.

Managing director of Wendy Lane Vets, Sam Allen, explained that the expansion was a response to the high number of clients travelling from Heywood and Middleton. He said: “Our Rochdale site reached full capacity.

“So, as we had lots of clients coming from the Heywood and Middleton area, we decided to open a new branch.”

Located in a former car repair garage, Gale Street Garage, the new facility on Mason Street was redesigned to offer a welcoming and purpose-built space for veterinary care.

The Heywood branch includes three consulting rooms, an operating theatre, and kennels, all designed to create a relaxing environment for both pets and their owners.

In addition to offering general veterinary care, Wendy Lane Vets plans to introduce a hydrotherapy centre at the Heywood site as part of a second phase of development. This new service, Sam noted, will provide a unique and beneficial treatment option for pet rehabilitation.

Wendy Lane Vets remains an independent, family-run practice and has earned accolades in the field, including the Gold Standard Cat Friendly Clinic award from the International Society for Feline Medicine (ISFM), making it the only practice in the area with this esteemed recognition.

The Rochdale location, which houses a team of eight vets and seven nurses, will continue to serve the community while the Heywood branch accommodates new and existing clients closer to their homes.

The new Heywood branch marks an exciting expansion for Wendy Lane Vets as it builds on nearly five decades of service to the Rochdale community.
