Date published: 25 October 2024

A global leader in research and development sample stability and biorepository storage which is based in Rochdale has expanded its footprint in the United States.

The Kingsway-based company, which has over 30 years of experience safeguarding scientific samples, continues to grow its global presence through a strategic mergers and acquisitions strategy.

This latest move is in response to increasing demand from Astoriom's clients for an East Coast facility, enhancing its service offerings and capacity in the U.S.

The new state-of-the-art biorepository will allow the company to better serve its customers by providing closer proximity, scalability, and technological capabilities in a region renowned as an innovation hub for life sciences and consumer products.

With existing facilities in the UK, Ireland, and on the West Coast of the U.S., the addition of this Research Triangle Park location expands Astoriom’s reach and resources, solidifying its position as a key player in the biorepository industry.

Lori A. Ball, Astoriom's recently appointed chief executive officer, said: “Astoriom’s leadership in providing high-quality R&D sample stability storage for regulatory compliance has driven expanded interest by our customers in storing and protecting their biorepository sample collections within our secured facilities around the world.

"The acquisition of Flagship Biosciences’ North Carolina biorepository business provides us a timely opportunity to meet the rising customer demand for biorepository storage by providing our customers with closer proximity, greater flexibility and more cost-effective integrated storage of their samples within the United States.”

He also highlighted the importance of Research Triangle Park, adding: “Research Triangle Park is well-known in the industry as an innovation hub, and it’s incredibly exciting for us to have space on the ground here as we continue growing our biorepository services in an environment that lends itself to expansion and growth.

"This acquisition reflects our proactive approach to growth and highlights our commitment to meeting the increasing customer need for high-quality biospecimen storage solutions that ensure scientific asset protection.”
