United Utilities has appointed R&B Switchgear Group to service and maintain its electrical power systems across more than 600 water treatment sites in the North West.

Under a three-year contract, R&B Switchgear will conduct preventative maintenance, routine repairs, and equipment upgrades at United Utilities' 575 wastewater sites and 96 water treatment locations.

This move aims to ensure the continued reliability of services to 3.2 million homes across Cumbria, Greater Manchester, Lancashire, Merseyside, Cheshire, and parts of Derbyshire.

R&B Switchgear secured the contract through a competitive tender process, demonstrating extensive experience in utilities and scoring the highest on technical criteria.

The company will oversee the maintenance of United Utilities' power distribution network, which includes high and low voltage (HV & LV) switchgear, transformers, protection and control systems, and necessary cabling and equipment upgrades.

Mark Beswick, managing director of R&B Switchgear Group, said: "As a North West business, it is a privilege to know that we are supporting a critical industry which serves our broader community.

"We have over 20 years' experience supporting the water industry and our team are fully adept at thinking on their feet and responding to the ever-changing requirements which come with unpredictable weather conditions and environmental factors."

R&B Switchgear Group has a long history of providing specialist maintenance and emergency support, notably for Scottish Water’s electrical systems.

Recognised as a leading provider of electrical switchgear and power engineering solutions, the company serves various sectors including utilities, renewable energy, transport, marine, healthcare, education, and construction.

This new contract with United Utilities marks another milestone for R&B Switchgear during a period of significant growth, adding to their portfolio of high-profile clients such as the NHS, Scottish Water, National Grid, and EDF Energy.
