Major progress for Kingsway Business Park

Date published: 06 January 2023

Two major developments at Kingsway Business Park have recently been completed with a third expected to be completed this summer.

Urban Park (Plot G), completed in November 2022, comprises of four units, which vary in size from 21,570 sq ft to 39,740 sq ft. This is a speculative development by property investment company Urban Logistics REIT.

Monarch (Plot I) was also a speculative development of a single warehouse development on a 17-acre site, it has 309,000 sq ft of warehousing, and 19,000 sq ft of supporting office space.

This scheme was completed in October 2022 and it has now been announced that global food company, Danish Crown, will move into the building in summer 2023, creating 300 jobs for the local economy.

Progress is also being made on the Imperial scheme (Plot M), which comprises of three new industrial units measuring 47,025 sq ft, 75,000 sq ft and 164,305 sq ft.

It is expected that this scheme will complete this summer.

A key part of development has been the completion of the Michael Faraday Avenue loop road which now opens up access to all of the existing businesses and crucially allows access to plots which will be developed in the future.

Testometric, a local company which designs and manufactures testing machines and quality control equipment has, after an extensive property search, taken additional space in unit 7 at Logic, a development of 11 self-contained units ranging in size from 3,000 to 15,500 sq ft.

In addition to the developments, planning applications have been submitted for Plot J2 and Plot W for further commercial developments and residential properties.

Councillor John Blundell, cabinet member for economy and regeneration, said: “It is testament to the quality of Kingsway and its location that so many speculative schemes are being developed here and that a global food company has made its biggest overseas investment in a decade into this location. It is great news for the local economy, local jobs and local people.”

Henry Henson, development manager at Wilson Bowden Development said: “We are very pleased to have delivered such a high volume of new development activity over the past 12 months at Kingsway.

“It has been thoroughly rewarding for all involved in the Kingsway project and is testament to the sites reputation, as being one of the North West’s most sought after strategic locations for distribution and manufacturing operations.

“We certainly look forward to growing on this success over the course of 2023 and continue with the pipeline of new development coming forward.

“If you’re an occupier or an investor who is interested in acquiring more space on a design and build basis, come and talk to us.”

Richard Johnson, JLL and Paul Daye P3 are the representative agents for Kingsway.

Kingsway Partnership is a joint venture between the Rochdale Development Agency, Rochdale Borough Council, Homes England and Wilson Bowden.
