The Vita Group celebrates safety award win

Date published: 25 April 2022

The Vita Group's manufacturing site in Middleton has won a prestigious health & safety award for work undertaken to protect employees from the risk of injury and ill-health.

Vita Comfort‘s Middleton site, which provides premium products and services to the bedding and furniture sectors, received an International Safety Award from the British Safety Council.

The International Safety Award was presented in recognition of Middleton’s commitment to keeping its workers and workplaces healthy and safe during the 2021 calendar year. The Middleton site is one of just 204 organisations to win a Merit in the International Safety Awards 2022.

The International Safety Awards recognise and celebrate organisations from around the world which have demonstrated their commitment to preventing workplace injuries and work-related ill-health during the previous calendar year. The awards also acknowledge organisations that have shown commitment to wellbeing and mental health at work.

Ian Robb, CEO of The Vita Group, said: “Safety is a primary focus for us at Vita and we’re committed to providing the very best working environment for our staff, suppliers, and stakeholders. As this award proves, we are really leading the way with its approach to safety - an approach that involves not just effectively minimising every day onsite risks but also supporting the mental health and general wellbeing of our colleagues.

“This award is a real testament to the hard work our teams put in every day to ensuring that our staff are as safe, comfortable and protected as possible. As the award is in recognition of our 2021 activities, it includes a lot of additional effort that was required to meet the unique issues presented by the pandemic. I am proud to say that all our teams rose to this challenge incredibly and it is wonderful to see them recognised by a leading health and safety authority.”

Mike Robinson, Chief Executive of British Safety Council, congratulated Vita Middleton on their success in winning an International Safety Award 2022 with a Merit: “The British Safety Council applauds The Vita Group’s Middleton site on their achievement. The award is in recognition of their commitment and hard work to keep their employees and workplaces free of injury and ill-health.

“The vision of British Safety Council is that no-one should be injured or made ill through their work – anywhere in the world. Achieving this requires more than complying with legislation; it means people committed not only to health and safety but also increasingly to workplace wellbeing and impelling others to follow suit.

“The extensive list of winners of the International Safety Awards demonstrates that a considerable number of companies recognise that effective management of health and safety risks is a business growth enabler, benefiting not just employees, but organisations and wider society. With over six decades of improving health and safety standards around the world, we encourage other organisations to adopt this approach and place employees’ health, safety, and wellbeing at the core of their business.

“Our heartfelt congratulations to Vita Middleton. All of those working at The Vita Group’s Middleton site should be enormously proud of their achievement.”
