Littleborough business Daniels Healthcare, a local manufacturer of sharps and clinical waste containers, has introduced the world’s first UN-approved clinical waste container made from post-consumer recycled resin (PCR) to the UK.
Made of responsibly sourced recycled plastic, the WIVA™ Infinity range of clinical waste containers provides a cost-effective and sustainable solution to the healthcare sector, while still meeting the highest standards in quality and safety.
The pioneering concept has already been introduced in The Netherlands and Belgium, with evidence suggesting that customers can reduce their equivalent Co2 footprint by 50% when switching to the WIVA™ Infinity range.
PCR resin is the recycled plastic waste created by consumers. When PCR resins are reused and transformed into new products, new fossil fuels are not required, which has positive environmental benefits.
The grey WIVA™ Infinity containers, available in 30, 50 and 60 litre size, designed for the disposal of healthcare clinical waste, are made using state-of-the-art manufacturing technology and certified to UN3291* and performance tested for leak resistance, stability and impact resistance tests based on ISO23907 and NFX 30-511 standards.
Steven Boyle, National Sales Manager, Daniels Healthcare, said: “We are delighted to be able to offer our customers true sustainability at scale by combining the superior protection of specific healthcare risk waste with the environmental benefits of using PCR resin.
“The launch of the WIVA™ Infinity range, a world-first, into the UK market demonstrates our continued commitment to reduce single use plastics and minimise the impact on the environment.
“If UK users of WIVA™ VAT 5 containers convert to the new WIVA™ Infinity series, it would deliver a substantial reduction of virgin plastic use and CO2 emissions to support the NHS in reaching its own sustainability goals.”
It is the second sustainable product offered by Daniels Healthcare following last year’s successful launch of its first 100% recycled plastic waste containers, SHARPSGUARD® eco pharmi.
