Salt Separation Services have recently signed a contract with German ship builder, Meyer Werft, for the design, manufacture and commissioning of reverse osmosis desalination plants for fresh water production on two new ultra-luxury cruise ships.
Each ship will be fitted with three reverse osmosis plants, each capable of producing 220,000 litres per day of desalinated fresh water from seawater. The plants will supply fresh water for use by the passengers and crew on board.
The innovative solution includes a two-pass reverse osmosis array to produce reverse osmosis permeate to a very high specification, whilst using isobaric energy recovery technology to dramatically reduce the energy consumption of the reverse osmosis plants.
All manufacturing will be completed at Salt Separation Services workshops in Rochdale with deliveries scheduled for 2021 and 2022.
The contract, which is worth in excess of £1m, follows on from recent export success in the naval sector.
