Crystal Doors shortlisted for Manufacturer MX Awards 2019

Date published: 23 August 2019

Rochdale business Crystal Doors will go head to head with manufacturers across the country for the title of sustainable manufacturing after being shortlisted for The Manufacturer MX Awards 2019.

Over 50 of Britain’s top manufacturing companies have made it through to the finals of the UK’s largest and most rigorous industry awards programme: The Manufacturer MX Awards (TMMX Awards).

The shortlist represents the true diversity of UK manufacturing, ranging from smaller companies like Crystal Doors, to mailing machine OEM Pitney Bowes and global aerospace manufacturer Spirit AeroSystems in Prestwick, Scotland.

Crystal Doors is the only SME to be shortlisted for the Sustainable Manufacturing Award. The other finalists in the category are BMW Manufacturing, global wine firm Accolade Wines, brick maker Ibstock Brick, insulation manufacturer Kingspan and food giant pladis.

Managing Director Richard Hagan said: “We are delighted to have been shortlisted for the Sustainable Manufacturing Award and are looking forward to the big event. Competing against multi billion turnover companies, multinationals, I have already achieved beyond what should have been possible.

“An SME manufacturer delivering an incredible change over four years towards Industry 4.0 and climate change. I welcome all to see Crystal Doors achievements, investments and cultural change both in our team and local community.

“Green lights are all go, and we are ready to welcome the judges.”

The finalists go through to the second round of the competition where judging teams travel the length and breadth of the UK to visit the factories to gather first-hand evidence of their entries in action or present at a judging day.

Judges include previous TMMX Awards winners, Fellows from the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE), representatives from each of the High Value Manufacturing Catapult Centres (HVMC), leading academics and industry experts.

TMMX Awards are organised by The Manufacturer in partnership with IMechE. It is a matter of pride for both organisers that the experience provides real value to participants, above and beyond anything offered by similar awards schemes.

After each round of judging, every entrant is provided with feedback from judges, a particularly valuable feature during the second round, when judges visit entrants onsite. Their expert assessment of what they discover during this detailed process has been described by previous entrants as a ‘free consultancy’ report, helping them benchmark themselves against the very best in the manufacturing sector.

Commenting on this year’s programme, managing director of The Manufacturer, Grace Gilling said: “TMMX Awards is one of my favourite things we do at The Manufacturer and I am delighted that this year we have a real variety of companies taking part. Against a continued backdrop of uncertainty, it is fantastic to be showcasing excellence in UK manufacturing across many different disciplines and to have the enthusiastic support of our numerous sponsors.”

The winners will be announced at The Manufacturer MX Awards ceremony and gala dinner taking place on 14 November at Exhibition Centre Liverpool.
