Mayor visits Rochdale Training

Date published: 25 October 2016

Mayor Ray Dutton visited Rochdale Training on Monday (24 October) and  was given a tour of the recently refurbished building and a showcase of the organisation's achievements.

The Mayor has a background in assessing, training and teaching and has taught apprentices during his career, making him a real ambassador for apprenticeships.

Mayor Dutton said: “It is important that employers take on apprentices and utilise the local people of Rochdale, this also allows companies to bring in a diverse skill set and different cultures.”

“Apprentices help by keeping the local skill set in Rochdale, they also help by contributing to the local economy which has a positive impact on the borough as a whole.”

The Mayor said he was impressed by the work Rochdale Training is doing, especially the emphasis on improving learners maths and English.

He added: “The success rates at Rochdale Training are an excellent reflection of how they are meeting the needs of local employers and training up the future workforce.”

Jill Nagy, Chief Executive of Rochdale Training, said: “Both the staff and learners really enjoyed the Mayor’s visit. His enthusiasm for apprenticeships and skills training in Rochdale was apparent and very motivating for young people.”

Rochdale Training deliver apprenticeships in several industry sectors such as engineering, business administration, management, health & social care; assist companies in taking on apprentices, and also help companies to train and upskill staff.
