Concept Metal Products has bought a new £600,000 laser cutting machine.

The sheet metal company, on Mills Hill Road, Middleton, has ordered a new ten by two metre machine which is quicker, larger and more environmentally friendly than older forms of similar technology. It will arrive from Poland later in the year.

General Manager Dean Barnard said: “We have taken a bit of a gamble because of the Euro exchange rate, but we have always made our money by being bigger and better than everyone else and this investment has been in the pipeline for a while. The machine will open up more doors for us because it’s one the biggest of its kind in the country.

“We will be able to cut longer pieces of metal without needing to wield things together. It’s also three times as fast as the other machines and that could bring down our customers’ waiting time for a product from between five and six days to three and four days.

“The older laser cutting machines cut the metal with gases. This one is new, it operates similarly but uses more electricity instead of gases, so our carbon footprint should be lower.”

Concept Metal Products is a family-run business which was established in 1975 by owner Geoff Bentham.
