Rooley Moor Road Co-op undergoing makeover

Date published: 14 May 2016

The Co-op food store in Rooley Moor Road, Rochdale, has embarked on a near £375,000 makeover, which when complete will create up to six new retail roles.

A pop-up shop will continue to serve the community with popular produce and essential groceries between 7am-6pm daily before the new-look food store re-opens on Monday 23 May.

The store will have an enhanced in-store bakery and a focus on fresh, healthy foods, meal ideas and essentials. It will extend its opening hours to 6am-11pm daily and will also have new refrigeration to enhance its meat and dairy produce range.

Two community pioneers, Suzanne Rigby and Catherine Crossley, have been appointed. Suzanne and Catherine are members of the food store team who will also work to foster involvement in community activities, from local fundraising initiatives to working with charities, schools and voluntary organisations to contribute to local life.

Liam Westwood, manager of the store, said: “The Co-op is committed to transforming and growing its convenience business and we are delighted to be making such a significant investment in Rochdale, enhancing the in-store experience and creating new retail roles - it really is an exciting time for the whole team.

“As a community retailer, and a co-operative, our aim is to establish the store as a community hub, playing a real part in local life and delivering a compelling and convenient shopping experience locally.”
