The Mayor and Mayoress of Rochdale, Surinder and Cecile Biant, enjoyed an afternoon tipple yesterday (Thursday 10 March) as they officially opened a new brewery in town.
Owners of Serious Brewing Ltd, Ken and Jenny Lynch, invited local ale lovers to sample their beers at the micro-brewery site on Fieldhouse Industrial Estate, where the ribbon was cut by Mayor Surinder Biant.
Mayor Biant said: “I’m very pleased to be here to make the opening of yet another great business in Rochdale. Rochdale is the birthplace of the pioneers, and they continue to grow here.
“I can tell you first hand that I have tasted the beer that is brewed here and I recommend it, it is excellent.
"I fully support this new business here, well done to the owners Ken and Jenny, we know it is going to be a success.”
Co-owner Jenny Lynch said: “It was wonderful to meet the Mayor and to have him officially open our brewery. We are proud to open our brewery in Rochdale and it is great to be part of something positive.
“We've had a lot of buzz about our beer and a lot of positive feedback. We’d like to thank everyone who came along to our open day. After all our hard work and planning, it’s great to see things come together, and it’s exciting to see people drinking and enjoying our beers.”
Among the guests were the owners of the newly opened The Old Post Office Ale House from Castleton Andy and Cath Smith, who have already started selling the beer from the brewery.
Mr Smith said: “This place is brilliant, we love it and our customers love it. We have already put a request in for some of their beer on tap, because it’s been a massive hit with the bottles that we’ve sold. It’s great for us too, to have a good local brewery that we can count on. I think these guys are going to do well.”
The Serious Brewing company focuses on producing bottle-conditioned and keg-conditioned beers, which draw influences from traditional British ale, US craft beers and aspects of artisan Belgian beers.
Mr and Mrs Lynch invested their own money to set up the new brewing venture, along with a £25k start-up loan from Business Finance Solutions (BFS). Having been enthusiastic home brewers for several years, they have spent the past year researching and refining a small range of premium quality beers.
Mrs Lynch added: “It’s been an exciting project and we’re really happy with how it turned out.”
