Record-breaking year for Zen Internet

Date published: 11 March 2016

Rochdale-based Zen Internet has announced a record-breaking year as it celebrates its twentieth anniversary in business.

The leading independent internet service provider (ISP) saw revenues rise by 7.1 per cent from £50.6m to £54.2m in the year to the end of September 2015, and pre-tax profits of £3.2m.

Having grown from a pioneering ISP 20 years ago, today Zen is a multi-award winning company which provides a full range of data, voice and cloud services to business and residential customers across the UK.

In October 2014, Zen made the significant decision to restructure the 400-strong employee business into three customer facing divisions: Small Business & Residential, Corporate & Mid-Market and Partnerships.

This restructuring has ensured that each division was well-placed to provide the support and solutions which best meet the needs of each customer group in an evolving technology landscape.

Finance director Matt Kay said: “The business continues to benefit from our customer-centric business model together with heavy investment in Zen’s network and expanding our product range.

“Zen has a long-term strategy of re-investing profits into the business to ensure its future growth and these record-breaking figures underscore the wisdom of that decision by the senior management team. It is particularly pleasing to announce these figures as the company celebrates its twentieth anniversary.”

Zen has remained firmly focussed on providing superb customer service but its commitment to investing retained profits back into the business to expand its core network infrastructure, voice and cloud offerings has ensured it continues to deliver high-quality services across the UK.

Mr Kay added: “Zen has many exciting initiatives in place for the next 12 months. These include further investment in our network and the launch of a series of new products to add further value and choice for our customers.”

Throughout the significant restructuring of the business Zen’s people have embraced the changes - last week (Friday 26 February) Zen Internet was named one of the best companies to work for in the UK when it was ranked in 56th place in The Sunday Times 100 Best Companies awards.

Last year Zen Internet’s success was also recognised when it was named Services Company of the Year in the BCS and Computing UK IT Industry Awards. Presented by the BCS, the Charted Institute for IT, the coveted awards are a platform for IT professionals to celebrate best practice, innovation and excellence across the industry.
