Update on flood affected businesses
Date published: 26 February 2016
This week we sent our reporter to to see how businesses in Rochdale town centre affected by the Boxing Day Floods are getting on...
Headquarters Unisex Barbers
Headquarters hair salon on The Walk re-opened its doors on Thursday (25 February) after two months of operating within Beales Department Store.
Jackie Wood, from Headquarters, said: “It has been a really long wait but we are happy to say that we are finally back in our original location on The Walk.
"I want to thank Beales Department Store for letting us use their space while we were recovering from the floods. It was very nice of them, although as you can imagine there were no sinks so we had to reduce our services to dry cuts.
“It has been tough but we are back in business now and raring to go.”
Haberdashery
Haberdashery is back open for business as usual.
Manager Clifford said: “We are back open as usual now."
"We got help from the council at the time, though instead of actually giving us money it was just deducted from the rates. Still, it was a help. We are operating as normal now.”
Stephen Paul Hair and Beauty Salon
Stephen Harrison from Stephen Paul Hair and Beauty Salon, has had to leave his usual location on The Butts and is temporarily operating from Greogory Couzens’ salon on The Walk.
Stephen said: Since the floods hit I have been pleasantly surprised by everyone's reaction - the Council responded really well with aid and some funding that is ongoing.
I am now working out of Gregory Couzens in The Walk; Greg and his team have been brilliant, I feel at home in the salon and the team are really welcoming. I will be here for some time as the insurers are not moving too quickly, but I am enjoying my time in the salon, every cloud has a silver lining.
The only thing I would say is businesses now need the support of the public to come in and use them.
La Mancha
La Mancha tapas bar and restaurant re-opened its doors to the public on Friday 5 February.
Restaurant Manager Barbara Fearnley said: “Thanking all our loyal customers, friends and family who have helped with the clean-up. We were overwhelmed with the response from everyone.
“We are now open as usual with the full menu available.”
Royal Bank of Scotland
The Royal Bank of Scotland on The Butts was forced to close for repairs, but has finally announced an open date.
An RBS spokesperson said: “I am delighted that RBS Rochdale branch is re-opening after what has being a difficult few months for our staff, and more importantly our customers, following extensive flood damage. We look forward to welcoming all of our customers back to the branch when it re-opens on Monday (29 February).”
