Blackburn Rovers LFC 4 - 1 Rochdale AFC Ladies

Date published: 07 September 2011

Following a goal less first half Blackburn opened the scoring just after the hour mark through substitute Levi Penny. Coral O’Keefe quickly replied but 3 goals in the final 15 minutes from Danielle Sheen, Penny and Charlotte Heyes saw Dale’s unbeaten start to the season come to an end.

The opening action saw ex Dale striker Keeleigh Savage head over for Rovers.

The home keeper Krystal Parker quickyl  found her name in the referee’s notebook.

Chantelle Parry then saw her shot go wide.

Hannah Forster for Rovers shooting over.

The Dale defence were once again performing admirably dealing with and intercepting all Blackburn attacks.

Parry shot on target with Jennie Cummins shooting just over on the half hour mark.

Nicky Davies in goal for Dale gathered a Sheen shot and was called into action again close to half time producing a fine save from Forster. The resultant corner was initially cleared by the Dale defence but Heyes forced Davies into another good save from the follow up shot.

Half time: 0-0

In the second half, Savage had shots both wide and on target.

Jo Traynor cleared a Heyes attempt.

At the other end Cummins and Patrice Shirley combined to force a block from Parker.

Early in the second half Wendy Booth and Patrice Shirley for Dale made way for new signing Jade Malpus and Faye McCoy, with McCoy soon involved in the game seeing her cross gathered by Parker.

Blackburn made their first substitutions with Penny and Rachel Wood replacing Kim Turner and Lizzie Ince. Penny Wood was soon involved with her free kick going wide but she made no mistake just after the hour with her finish past Davies.

Sheen then went in the referee’s book.

Dale equalised with a fine header from O’Keefe.

Into the last 15 minutes Blackburn took the lead, a cross from Wood despatched by Sheen.

Willoughby then made her final substitution with Kate Rigby replacing Cummins.

Penny Wood then obtained her brace with a strike from the edge of the box, with Heyes rounding off the scoring with a strike from distance.

The last substitution for Blackburn followed with Sheen making way for Abi Hart.

It was therefore a disappointing second half for Dale and their first defeat of the 2011/12 campaign.
