Mayfield travel to face Leigh Miners in the first round of the shield competition
After losing out in last week’s play game at Hunslet, Rochdale's Mayfield travel to face Leigh Miners in the first round of the NCL shield competition this weekend (Saturday 25 September).
A win would give Mayfield a home tie next week and a win is what Butterworth and Wood are after.
The win sounds simple, but is far from it; a depleted squad have trained this week, but the coaches have rallied the troops and are confident that players will step up and make the sacrifice despite several of them carrying injuries.
Miners have had a similar season to Mayfield with an unsettled team and wins and losses where the opposite were expected.
Both sides have excellent pedigrees, and both have the experience within their sides to know what is required to progress to the next round.
