Karate: Team Dojo members win raft of medals and qualify for world championships

Date published: 01 October 2018

Members of the Dojo Karate Centre returned from the NMACGB World Qualifier Competition in Norwich with 62 medals - 18 golds, 24 silvers, 20 bronze - and qualification for the world championships.

All who received a medal have now qualified to represent Great Britain in the World Martial Arts Championship in 2019 in India.

Sensei Irfan Ansari, chief instructor, said: “We have always had a strong presence on the competition scene with many of our members winning multiple world titles over a number of years. We now have a young squad that has progressing well, and this result reflects their efforts.

“Whilst I am pleased with the results and it is nice to see so many have qualified, there is still a lot of room for improvement.

“Best performances were from Harry Morgan, Awais Akhtar, Charlie Crosby, Amaanullah Rana and Daniel Tarasevic.

"Only with diligent practice in and out of The Dojo will they reach the very high standard of bringing back gold for Team GB in 2019.”
