Shawclough U9s knocked out of Blackpool Youth Football Tournament on penalties
Date published: 08 May 2017
Shawclough U9s got to the quarter-finals of the Plate-Competition in the two-day Blackpool Youth Football Tournament but were knocked out on penalties.
The team won three of their six games, with each player performing to the very best of their abilities and demonstrating high levels of sportsmanship for such young players.
The golden boot award went to Zain Ahmed who scored four goals.
At the end of the competition, coach Gaz Mase praised the contributions of all the players.
David Penney, father of Siri, the only girl on the team, and one of just a handful in the entire tournament, said: “I am very proud of the effort she puts in.
“She always gives as good as she gets, even with lads who are considerably larger than her.”
