Football: Hopwood Hall College 14 - 1 Blackpool & Fylde College

Date published: 12 April 2017

Hopwood Hall College hit double figures in a game for the third time this season demolishing Blackpool & Fylde College 14-1.

The victory saw Hopwood Hall maintain their two point lead at the top of the table.

Blackpool set up to frustrate an in-form Hopwood side that had scored 15 goals in their last two games, and for the first 30 minutes they did just that.

Although Hopwood’s captain Ben Matthews scored in the third minute, Blackpool quickly responded with a superb strike from their number nine.

With Blackpool playing 11 men behind the ball, Hopwood found it difficult to break down but Kieren May broke Blackpool's resilient defence in the 32nd minute with a strike from outside the area.

Before the half time whistle Hopwood were 4-1 up after Danny Cryer and James Gregory scored in quick succession.

Two minutes into the second half and Matthews claimed his second of the game, followed quickly by Dom Gregory striking a powerful, low shot into the corner before Matthews completed his hat trick.

Within minutes of coming off the substitutes bench, Oumar Camara scored twice, quickly followed by Owen Shaughnessy bagging a brace.

Kieran Glynn scored his third goal in as many games, before left back Joe Richards made it 14 with a strike in the 87th minute and a headed goal in the final minute of the game.

Hopwood’s next league game sees them travel to second placed Runshaw College, in what will likely be a crunch match in the race for the ECFA North West Region (Category 2A) title.
