Hopwood Hall see off league rivals to maintain 100% record

Date published: 18 March 2017

Hopwood Hall College’s first team fought back from 0-1 down to defeat league rivals Newcastle-under-Lyme College in an action packed 5-1 win.

Victory saw Hopwood Hall maintain their unbeaten league run - the team has won all 12 league games so far this season.

Newcastle took an early lead after 20 minutes, with a low drive into the bottom corner of Hopwood Hall’s net.

A quick response came from Hopwood with Oumar Camara scoring an equalising header from a free kick.

Seconds before the half time whistle, Camara's shot ricocheted off the post into the path of Danny Cryer, who scored Hopwood’s second.

The second half saw Hopwood dominate the game.

Jacob Frost added to the score line before Camara scored his second and Hopwood's fourth.

The fifth and final goal came from Frost, his left-foot drive finding the bottom corner.

Rob Johnson, head coach at Hopwood Hall Football Academy, said: “This was a really pleasing win, playing some lovely pass-and-move football against very good opposition. We were always the better side in the second half after a mixed first half, the boys should be really proud of themselves to have maintained this winning run.”
