Congratulations to our best attending forms for week commencing 17 January 2011. 7A, 7B, 8C and 10J all achieved a superb 100% attendance, which represents a fantastic achievement and is a credit to those students. Also well done to 9A and 11B for achieving 99% and 98% respectively.
Our Expressive Arts students and staff have been very busy recently. On Friday, 40 GCSE Expressive Arts students went to the Lowry Theatre in Salford to see the hip hop dance company Flawless (of Britains got Talent fame). They were treated to an amazing spectacle of dance and were enthralled by this opportunity to watch a professional dance company. This experience will give the students something to aspire to and help them develop their repertoire and ideas ready for their group compositions in forthcoming exam work. We also had the KonFlux Theatre Company in school recently to work with our Year 9 Expressive Arts groups following on from this, students are now adapting their own plays in the Ancient Egyptian style.
Last week we welcomed the North West Tonight film crew into Oulder Hill to do a feature about our students’ involvement in the filming of Waterloo Road (following on from the programme’s success at the National Television Awards). As many of you will be aware many of our students have appeared as extras in the show and one of our students, Shannon Flynn, plays a lead part. Students Kieran Patel, Bronte Holt and Shannon Flynn did us proud in the news along with drama teacher John Holt.
Congratulations to our Under 14s girls football team who played in the Rochdale indoor tournament last week. Fantastic news they got into the finals by beating Matthew Moss by 4 goals to 3 and Saint Annes Academy by a staggering 13 goals to 1. The team in full was Alivia Marshall, Sophie Byrne, Katie Turton, Aroosa Hussain, Demi Hogarth (captain), Danielle Beasley, Frankie Bagshaw, Laraib Afzal and Lucy Moore. They were all fantastic and as ever, a credit to the school.
The Year 7 girls football team played also played some league matches last week, winning all of them they beat St Cuthberts by 1 goal to nil, Siddal Moor by 3 goals to 2 and Wardle by 2 goals to nil. They have 3 more league matches coming up soon which we look forward to reporting on. A huge well done to Mio Griffiths, Georgina Butterworth, Molly Williams, Alex Bagshaw, Kainat Nafees, Charlotte Cannings and Rebecca Williams.
Thank you to all parents and carers of Year 9 students who were able to support their children with their Key Stage 4 option choices by attending Options Evening last week. If you were unable to attend and would like to discuss anything about the options process with a member of staff please contact either Mr. Collins, Mrs. Dockerty or Miss Townsend at school. Please remember that the final deadline for returning completed forms is Monday 7 February.
