Parents Evening
Thank you to all parents who are visiting school on Tuesday 9 or Wednesday 10 November. We really do appreciate your support, it is so important that your child's teacher can share their expectations with you and explain how you can support your child's learning at home.
At next term's meeting you will have the opportunity to see some of your child’s work and find out how your child is progressing towards his/her end of year target.
Harvest
As a result of donations received at our Harvest Festival Service a total of £70.00 was raised for the Orphans of Namibia. Thank you for your support.

Poppies will be sold after the half term holiday for a donation.
Book Week
The Book Fair will arrive in school week commencing Monday 8 November. It will be open from 3.30 to 4.00pm on Tuesday 9, Wednesday 10 and Thursday 11 November.
Children will enjoy a range of reading activities during the week. For every book sold at the book fair children will have the opportunity to be entered into a prize draw to win a free book.
Children in Need
All classes will participate in a variety of fun activities on the afternoon of Friday 19 November. Children have been asked to come to school dressed as “teachers” for the day and teachers will dress as “school children” at a cost of £1.00 which will then be donated to ‘Children in Need’.
Anti-Bullying Week
Children will engage in a variety of activities involving discussion and designing bookmarks during Anti-Bullying Week.
Autumn /Winter
As the weather becomes colder, could you please ensure that your children come to school wearing warm coats as they are expected to work/play outdoors, sometimes for long periods of time.
Union Road
A reminder for parents when dropping off or picking up children in cars.
Please avoid congestion on Union Road – it is possible to park in Birch Hill Hospital car park. Thank you for your understanding and co-operation.
Extra-Curricular Activities
Extra-curricular activities next half term include: Brass, Woodwind, Choral Club, Craft, ICT, Cookery, Football and Netball, as in the first half of term. Clubs have been particularly successful this term – a big thank you to all who have enabled them or taken part in them, including the parents/grandparents who joined in the cookery club tasting session. Delicious!
Church Fair
St. Andrew’s Church Fair will take place in Church on Saturday 13 November from 11.00am Choral Club will once again be singing at the opening of the Fair. Please come along and support them.
Christmas Production – The Magical Christmas Box
As in recent years, and in line with parental views the production will again be performed on three occasions, one in the afternoon and two in the evening. Tickets will be issued in order to ensure that audience numbers are kept to a comfortable and safe level. There will be an expectation that all children will be available to take part in both evening performances, so that the production is of the highest possible quality at every performance.
Family Assemblies
Thank you to Y2 and Y1 for their wonderful Family Assemblies. These are very special occasions for the children and we are delighted to have such fantastic support from parents/grandparents. Photos can be seen on our website.
In Good Work Assembly on 15 October our school band performed for the whole school. Conductor, Jane Conway explained the various instruments and the band treated us to several brilliant tunes. If your child would like to join band please contact school.
Thank you also to puppeteers Geoff, Ken and Jonathan for bringing the story of the lost sheep to life with a fantastic performance of ‘Baa Baa We’re Lambs’.
Athletics
On Friday 15 October 12 children represented the school at the Hollingworth High Athletics event. The children from years 5 and 6 took part in several events and were a credit to the school. A big thank you and well done to all the children who took part and a big thank you to all the parents who came to watch or enabled their child to attend.
Reception September 2011
Places are still available for children starting Reception in September 2011. The forms are available from the office. Please note the deadline to hand the forms into school is 15 January 2011.
Year 6
Year 6 have been making posters to celebrate their time at St Andrew’s – please look in our local shops for their Artwork.
Wardle High School
Year 6 parents are invited to a meeting at Wardle High School at 6.00pm on 2 November to discuss the plans for the new school under BSF (Building Schools for the Future).
Dr Wright (Head Teacher) and Mr Shaw (AHT) will be visiting St Andrew’s on 16 November spending time with the School Council in the afternoon to discuss their ideas, followed by a meeting at 3.30pm with parents (YR to Y6). This is an exciting time for Wardle High and one which will benefit the children in our community for many years.
Morrison's Vouchers
Morrison’s vouchers are still available in store up to the end of October. Please bring all vouchers in to school. Thank you for your support.
Nutcracker
A reminder that the whole school will be attending a performance of ‘The Nutcracker’ on Thursday 25 November.
The children will be leaving at 1.00pm and returning at 6.00pm.
