Martin Stapleton victorious against Jeremy Petley

Date published: 31 March 2015

Martin Stapleton, Rochdale’s professional cage fighter, was victorious again on Saturday night (28 March) defeating Jeremy Petley.

Having signed with BAMMA in October, Stapleton backed up his successful debut for the promotion in December with another knock out finish.

Stapleton took Petley to the third round, where he finished the fight with a devastating head kick finish.

Speaking to Rochdale Online, Stapleton said: “I am really happy. I knew it was going to be tough and it was. Jeremy Petley is a world class fighter but I knew going in that I was going to win and that I could win.”

The fight was originally scheduled to take place during BAMMA 17 last December but Petley had to pull out due to injury.

Stapleton said: “He was a tough opponent. He is very athletic and very tough and he kept coming at me with punch after punch and combinations, but I felt that I was always ahead. I felt that my fighting style was a lot cleaner than his and my finishes were cleaner.”

He added: “I am always confident and I have never really lacked confidence in anything. I can take on any fighter in the world and next I am going for the world title. We don’t have anything set yet and don’t have a date or venue or anything, but that is what I am aiming for next.”

Stapleton’s record now stands at 16 wins and four losses.
