Cash boost for Swarm

Date published: 05 August 2009

Rochdale Swarm, Hornets supporters tag rugby league side, have been awarded nearly £2000 by the Community Foundation for Greater Manchester to help with forthcoming rugby festivals.

The Award comes after a rigorous vetting process over several weeks.

The Swarm have also recently become members of the Rochdale Council of Voluntary Services. This will enable the Swarm to access help and information as they continue to expand and improve.

Emily Wynn of the Rochdale Swarm said: "We are very proud of the fact that the Community Foundation for Greater Manchester are prepared to back us with such a large award, and we hope we can re-pay their faith in us as we continue to get more and more people from all backgrounds, abilities and genders involved in Tag Rugby League."

Swarm travel over the Pennines on Saturday (8 August) to play in a Tag Rugby League Festival in Wakefield.

All Swarm players are asked to meet at 9.30am at the Firgrove Working Men's Club.

This is the start of a very busy period for the Rochdale side, which sees games almost every weekend through to mid- October. The most eagerly awaited fixture is next weekend's return visit to play in the Bruff Tag Rugby Festival in Ireland.

This is the second time the Swarm have crossed the Irish see to play at Bruff and the link that was developed saw the Bruff team travel over to the UK to play in the Swarm's International Tag Rugby League Festival in May.
